Leagues

The club offers several leagues throughout the year. We offer instructional leagues as well as social and competitive leagues. You must be a member of the St. Louis Curling Club to join a league (except for your first 4 - 6 week league). Please click here to become a member. If you would like to reserve your spot in a league, please click on the button above, fill out the form and email it to leagues@stlouiscurlingclub.org.

New Curlers

Curling in a weekly social league is the heart of our club and the best way to have fun and learn more about curling. You do not need to have a full team to play in the leagues; we will put you on a team. Experienced curlers from the club can help you hone your curling skills. For new curlers, attending a Learn to Curl is recommended before joining league play, but not required. Beginning curlers who have never curled in a league before will receive $20 off when they sign up for their first league.

Payment Information

For each league we need your payment by the dates noted above to secure the ice time. Your registration is not complete and your spot in the league is not guaranteed until we have received your payment. During your registration process, you will be directed to pay for the leagues via credit card. The credit card payment page can also be reached by clicking here in case something went wrong during your league registration. You may also bring a check to one of our events, or arrange to mail a check to our treasurer (contact treasurer@stlouiscurlingclub.org) by the due date.

For each league there is a $20 early bird discount if you register and pay by the early bird date as noted in the league description. Brand new curlers registering for their first league get the $20 discount regardless of when they register. Children from 5-18 are half price of the full adult price, but don't qualify for the new curler or early bird discounts.

For the Rogers Cup league, please contact the League Director if you would like to arrange more flexible payments in special circumstances. For each league, up to 5 people can register as a team, but only four team members can play in any one game.

To pay for the leagues by credit card via PayPal, please click here. Note: There is a $2.50 additional charge for the four week leagues, and a $5 charge for the Rogers Cup League to cover the PayPal fees if you decide to pay via credit card.

Refunds: No refunds will be allowed on league fees after one week before the start of the league, unless the league has a waiting list and your spot(s) can be filled. Please note that the club has to commit to buying ice 30 days before the start of each league, thus the club may not cover ice costs if too many people drop out of a league after the 30 day commitment date. Conversely, if people wait to sign up until after the 30 day commitment date, we may have already canceled the league you were interested in due to lack of participants!

Waiver
All curlers are required to sign a waiver before going on the ice. Waivers will be provided at sign in, or you can save time by downloading the waivers and bringing them signed to our registration table.

Age Limit
Children 14 years and older can participate in all leagues, while children 5-13 can play in the leagues on their parents team. The club has junior stones which are half the weight of the regulation stones and can be used by ages 15 and under. Once the junior stones are delivered, they are replaced in the house by the regulation stones. Children 5-18 are half price of the full adult price, but don't qualify for the new curler or early bird discounts.

League Rules

The St. Louis Curling Club follows the USCA club and bonspiel rules for curling as much as possible, which can be found here. Below are a few things to keep in mind.
  • For every ten minutes a team is late (after the ice is ready), it forfeits one end and one point. If a team is thirty minutes late, the game is forfeited. If a curler is late, a team may begin the match with three (3) curlers. Once the late curler arrives, he/she may enter the match beginning with the next full end. The late curler may enter at any position on his/her rink, including skip.
  • Each end should take 15 minutes or less. This means stones must be delivered less than one minute apart. Please be ready and in the hack when it is your turn to deliver. It is up to the skips to keep the game moving at a brisk pace.
  • St. Louis Curling Club leagues use the four stone free guard zone rule. Stones may not be removed from the free guard zone (unless they are pushed into the house) until four stones have been played each end.
  • All ties will be broken by skips stones (each skip throws one stone and the closest to the button wins). Your own skips stone may be swept, but your opponents skip stone may not be swept.
  • If you can't make a game it is your responsibility to inform your skip and to arrange for a sub. Please email subs@stlouiscurlingclub.org and include the date and time of your game. Subs play Lead or Second position.
  • Teams will forfeit a game if fewer than 1/3 of their original team is present. The game can still be played with subs but will be counted as a forfeit.

Curling Etiquette

Etiquette is an important part of the game of curling. Before you participate in a league, please take a look at this summary of curling etiquette. Experienced club members are expected to provide etiquette guidance to novice members on the ice.
